ALFA ROMEO - GIULIA QUADRIFOGLIO - Brake cooling kit
  • In terms of lap times, stopping is just as important as accelerating is, and in terms of safety and driver confidence, stopping is even more important than raw speed. Now, while Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has no issues with power, the brakes hardly match the car’s power and weight specs. In OEM format the brakes are suited fine for normal driving. For light sport driving upgraded uprated brake discs and capable brake pads are must. But even slightly more enthusiastic driving or any increase in grip and power specs over OEM setup and the overheating of the brakes becomes an obvious issue that will persist, regardless of the brake discs and pads selection. Installing racing brake pads or larger brake discs, will help to postpone the overheating issue, but without sufficient cooling it simply cannot provide a thorough solution to address this issue. The racing brake pads will withstand the higher temps and have higher brake fade resistance, but the extra heat will now be transformed from the pads to the disc and brake calipers, therefore the brake fluid will boil due to excessive temperature, while brake discs will quickly develop thermal cracks. Therefore, the only solution to actively address the brake overheating issue is to provide external cooling to the brakes and the GMS brake cooling kit is here to do that.

GMS Brake cooling kit provides maximum cooling efficiency that can be implemented with the available room around the tight front suspension. Kit is designed to draw fresh air from underneath of the car and deliver it to the brake disc. At speed of 160 km/h, this system is capable of flowing up to 7.5 m³/min or 125 l/s of fresh air to the brakes, providing significantly improved cooling capacity over OEM configuration with basically zero brake cooling. Brake cooling is really something your car desperately needs under demanding conditions on the track or back road blasting. Such solution, provides optimal cooling efficiency and reduces the chance of disc warping, brake fade and brakes overheating.

In general, there are two types of brake discs on the market for Giulia Quadrifoglio. Brake discs similar to OEM - without directional cooling vanes and brake discs like GMS SLR - with directional cooling vanes. For OEM type of brake discs and drilled surface discs, we recommend to choose OEM option. In this case the cooling air flow is guided in a conventional way, directly to the disc brake surface. OEM kit is designed, to fit OEM disc brakes with diameter of 360mm x 32mm and other aftermarket discs of similar size and without directional cooling vanes.

For GMS SLR brake discs and similar, we recommend SLR option. In this case, the cold air flow is guided into the center of the disc brake bell and then distributed via directional cooling vanes within the disc. This setup provides better cooling performance compared to conventional cooling (disc surface only) setup, more even heat distribution and higher efficiency. SLR kit is designed to fit GMS SLR 360mm x 32mm disc brakes, GMS SLR BBK 378mm x 32mm discs and other aftermarket disc brakes of similar size, with directional cooling vanes and inner diameter (see photo 5) of 236mm or more.

GMS Brake cooling kit assembly features an AISi10Mg 3D SLM printed inlet and outlet scoops, silicon high temp resistant ducting, stainless steel mounting brackets, custom stainless steel brake lines and all the required hardware for plug and play installation. The weight of complete assembly comes at only 1590g for OEM version and 1690g for the SLR version.
